The pays is comprised of two architectural areas roughly corresponding to agricultural area boundaries. The Champagne Berrichonne, in the north-east, is an area of large estates, where people mostly live in villages. In the south and east of the Pays, there is an architectural transition area corresponding to the Vallée de Germigny and Val de Loire. The people are more scattered and live in small towns and villages as well as in hamlets.
Traditionally used for masonry in the Pays are generally coated walls of limestone rubble. The openings are on the main façades, and the frames are of ashlar. The roofs are made of small flat terracotta tiles or interlocking tiles. Slates are also frequently used.
